Thankful for baby Nanette’s life

A thanksgiving ceremony was held for baby Nanette whose life was saved after she drowned in August last year.

An offering of love was held for two-year-old baby Nannette Maree on Saturday as a thanksgiving for her life at Lewende Woord Westerlig in Andeon. On 14 August 2014 baby Nanette Maree fell and drowned in the swimming pool when she was just a year old.

“What unravelled after that was a series of events that tested the family’s faith. More than anything the experience brought us closer together,” said Ruan Maree, Nanette’s father. According to him, Nannette fell into the pool while she was not being watched. They searched for her for a while until they found she had fallen into the pool. “We immediately rushed her to Akasia hospital where upon seeing her condition was critical, she was airlifted to Garden City hospital in Johannesburg,” he said.

“She spent six months at the hospital, in and out of the intensive care unit. The doctor’s told us at the time they were doing their best to save her life and there was nothing we could do except eat, sleep and pray. When she was finally stable we brought her home but she now is a special needs child and has to breathe through an oxygen machine until such time that her lungs are strong enough to allow her to breathe on her own,” said Maree.

The financial toll on the family has been huge but they have managed with the support of friends, the church and well-wishers. “We are still struggling to do everything for her ourselves. Any help we can get towards her upkeep is welcome,” he said. A trust fund was set up for baby Nanette.

Her mother Jeanette, could not contain her emotions as she related Nanette’s journey to the congregation. “Our experience is testimony that God is good all the time. His grace comes to those who do not deserve it and that is us all,” she said.

Wellwishers who would like to make donations towards baby Nanette’s trust fund can do so through the FNB savings account number 62535199401. The account is held at the Gezina branch code 250655.
