Around the world on a G-string

The Pretoria Oosterlig Church in Waterkloof Glen hosted an annual gala evening titled Around the world in a G-string on Saturday where young men and women of the Pretoria Youth Philanthropic Orchestra took the audience on a world tour in the comfort of their seats.

The musical came from all over the world with one from Russia being a musical expression of a person walking from painting to painting in an art gallery.

Other pieces were Irish and German. An elated Hector Agrcrz said he was in awe of the Pretoria Youth Philanthropic Orchestra. “I cannot believe such young people can possess so much talent.

They have just earned a life fan in me,” he said.

Marius Vos concurred: “I feel like I have just been to every part of the world in a matter of minutes. The evening was aptly titled indeed,” he said.

The Pretoria Youth Philharmonic Orchestra was formed in 1996. Although called a ‘youth’ orchestra, the orchestra also accommodates more senior, experienced students and young working musicians.

“Members of the orchestra form a dynamic, exuberant and social group of musicians of varied ages and levels of expertise who perform at various occasions, concerts and events,” said conductor, Pienaar Fourie, a highly energetic and experienced musician.

He said they strive to implement a ‘musical circle’, where older and more experienced orchestra musicians guide and help younger musicians to feel secure and gain confidence and knowledge while enjoying the shared musical experience.
