Dozens of boys become men

Boys became men and girls became women.

A total of 87 boys became men and eight girls became women after they completed their test of adulthood at Phetla initiation school on Thursday.

Hundreds of others were returned home because their parents did not sign the consent form for their children to become initiates.

The initiation school of Phetla began at the start of June and ended on July 30 for both girls and boys.

According to Chief Mapale Phetla, the boys and girls came back healthy and strong through the whole initiation process.

“No child was accepted at the school without the parents signing the consent form and the parents must produce his or her identity book to prove he or she is the correct parent before circumcision,” said Phetla.

“We had been working together with the department of health. Once admitted, the boys were taken to a clinic for check-ups for any allergies.”
