A Golden Women’s day

Eersterust Women celebrate Women's Day in special outfits.

The Eersterust community celebrated Women’s Day in style on Friday, with the ladies dressed in outfits that featured a wide variety of themes.

The idea was to celebrate women by highlighting what they loved most — to dress up.

The civic centre in Eersterust was decorated as a 70s dance hall with balloons on the dance floor and spruced-up seating surrounding the spacious dance area.

People turned up in numbers to join the celebration and to support the notion that women needed to be respected regardless of their age.

People came dressed in cowboy outfits, traditional Zulu, Sotho and Indian attire, with the chance of winning a prize at the end of the night for what they were wearing.

Six people were awarded prizes for dressing up in an outfit with a unique theme.

Local DJ Vusi kept everyone dancing to current beats as well as tunes of yesterday.

Organiser Jillian Hommond described event as one for “a community of people with one goal, which is to grow together in support of one another”.
