Every day should be Mandela day – councillor

Local ANC ward councillor, Nontobeko Komani has called on Soshanguve residents to make everyday a “Mandela Day”.

Local ANC ward councillor, Nontobeko Komani has called on Soshanguve residents to make every day a ‘Mandela day’.

Komani made this remark during an event aimed at celebrating Mandela day at Phakamonola primary school, Soshanguve on Saturday.

Joined by pupils, teachers and residents, Komani said it was important for residents to do good for their communities, not only on Mandela say, but every day.

Residents spent the day cleaning the school premises and repainting the walls.

This was part of their involvement of contributing 67 minutes on 18 July.

They cleaned the premises, washed windows and mopped floors, while some painted the local preschool on the same premises.

According to the school’s principal Radio Ngobeni, the school management decided to make a different plan this year as part of honouring the former state president for his contribution to the nation.

“This is a great day to millions of South Africans to honour the former statesman by doing something that will bring change in the community. We believe charity begins at home and that is why we started by cleaning our school today before we went to other community centres where we renovated, repainted a daycare centre and refurbished the orphanage centre. We are happy because we received support from our ward councillor. We also appreciate the donations of cleaning materials we got from a local company,” said Ngobeni.
