Tyre flippers reach out to children

Multi-world record holder attempts another world record – but this time to benefit children.

On Saturday 20 June, Sport Against Crime hosted an outreach programme in aid of charity for children.

Chris Batts from Sports Against Crime said they believed Christmas came around every time a person reached out to make a difference in the lives of others, especially the lives of children.

Various companies in Sefako Makgatho and Lavender Drives opened their hearts and wallets by making a R100 donation as well as donating toys to support the event.

“The aim was to collect as many toys as possible which will be handed over to the Wonderboompoort SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, who again will be giving these toys to the ALMA School and to Heavens Angels Pre-school. The cash will be applied to the maintenance and upgrading of the play areas and equipment.  This will be the first event of many more to come as there is a large need for helping children in need,” said Batts.

To add value to the day, Batts, a multi-world record holder in various sporting activities, took to the street in Sefako Makgatho Drive, along with friend and co-fitness fanatic, Chantal Hart. The two flipped a 65 kilogram tyre for one mile in aid of this drive. The mile started at Engen Zambezi Quickstop and was completed at Harley Davidson Zambezi.

This was an official World Record attempt.

Mrs SA Finalist Sylana Brink also graced the outreach with her presence. She walked alongside Batts and Hart while they flipped the tyre. At the finishing Brink handed the collected donations to the Wonderboompoort SAPS.

The event was a great success.
