Oskar en die Pienk Tannie in Pretoria

More than 200 Afrikaans fans had the Barnyard theater packed during a popular stage production, Oskar en die Pienk Tannie featuring Sandra Prinsloo.

Popular stage production, Oskar en die Pienk Tannie featuring Sandra Prinsloo, was staged at the Barnyard theatre, Parkview shopping complex on Friday and Saturday.

The eagerly awaited production drew an audience of more than 200 mainly Afrikaans fans packing the Musiekskuur’s theatre.

Oskar en die Pienk Tannie has already won three awards; best theatre production; best actress – Sandra Prinsloo and best director award – Lara Bye.

Fans were excited to enjoy another performance by this South African stage legend in the play based on a French novel by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt (Oscar et la Dame Rose), translated into Afrikaans by Naòmi Morgan.

Oskar en die Pienk Tannie has been performed at several venues around the country since 2012, scooping up multiple accolades wherever performed. But this was the first time audiences in Pretoria had an opportunity to enjoy the production.

The story is about a 10-year-old cancer patient, supported in his final days by the lonely and ageing Aunt Rose. Prinsloo expertly portrays both characters (and a host of others) – directed by Lara Bye. The script is described as crisp, curiously sad and incidentally funny.
