Last farewell to biker-brother

Hundreds of bikers gathered in Sefako Makgatho Drive in Montana on Saturday to celebrate the life of Gerald van Ede, deputy president of Wolf Spirit MC, who died in a horrific accident last Saturday.

Hundreds of mourning bikers revved up their motorbikes one last time on Saturday as a sign of their final respect for their fallen ‘soldier’.

The bikers conducted a ‘last run’ for the much-loved biker, Gerald van Ede, a father of three sons, through Sefako Makgatho drive in Montana.

The 54-year-old Van Ede, deputy president of the Wolf Spirit Motorcycle Club (MC), was killed in a horrific accident last week Saturday after a head on collision with an overtaking car.

Van Ede and six other members from the club were on their way to Haartbeespoort when the incident happened.

On Saturday, over 400 bikers from various biker clubs around Pretoria came through to pay tribute to the man they have always admired, not only due to his biking skills but his leadership skills as well.

The procession of more than 300 motorbikes and other vehicles travelled through Sefako Makgatho drive, heading to Shalom Church in Montana as a final mark of respect for the 54-year-old veteran biker.

Speaking at the memorial service, an emotional president of Wolf Spirit MC Hercules Wasserman who has been friends with Van Ede for the past 20 years said: “We are here to pay tribute to our fallen soldier. His tragic death has left us shuttered. An innocent life was lost, this has left a deep pain in our hearts.”

Another biker, Hugo van der Berg said: “We will always remember Gerald for his massive smile. He was a very friendly chap. He was somebody whom you could always open up to whenever you had a family or personal problem, which is why he was our deputy president”.

“He always made friends wherever he would go – they all loved him,” added Hugo.

Van Ede’s son, Werner van Ede said it had been a very difficult time for the family.

“It had not been easy. We are trying. We thank God for giving us strength to cope during this difficult time. We have been deeply affected,” he said.
