INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Paris to remove ‘Love Locks’ bridge

Padlocks will be removed from the famous Pont des Arts 'love lock bridge' this week.

Media in Paris, France has announced that padlocks will be removed from the famous ‘love lock bridge’, on Pont des Arts, due to its overwhelming weight.

For years couples in Paris and tourists from across the globe have visited the bridge, attaching locks with sentimental messages as symbolic acts of affection.

It has always been considered very charming and romantic, until parts of the bridge collapsed under the locks’ weight.  The bridge carries more than 700 000 locks with an estimated combined weight roughly the same as 20 elephants.
