A well-known principal in Mamelodi East was laid to rest over the weekend.

The late former principal of Pula Dikgoro Primary School, Tuki Josiah Motubatse (67) will be remembered for the good he had done in the community.

Motubatse left a rich legacy of excellence at the school.

He was buried at the Garsfontein cemetery on Saturday.

Motubatse died after a long illness and will be missed by his wife, two sons, a daughter, four grandchildren, pupils, teachers and residents.

He started teaching in 1971 and retired in 2011.

His career started with teaching at Somisanang Primary School and he was appointed head of department at Rethakgetse Primary School in 1979. In 1994 he was appointed principal of Pula Dikgoro Primary School.

Besides teaching he was also a conductor for both the boys’ and girls’ school choirs.

The chairperson of the school governing body at Pula Dikgoro Primary School, Hlongwane, said: “The late Motubatse was one of the first school principals in the far East of Mamelodi. He was a loving person and helped the needy, especially people from disadvantaged families.”

“He was a motivator and had inspired many people in the community and always put the pupils ahead of everything,” said Hlongwane.
