Sunnyside celebrates police day

The Sunnyside cluster also welcomed its new commander at a police day celebration.

The Sunnyside cluster national police day was marked with a health and fitness event at the Maritimo soccer field in Hatfield on Friday.

The occasion to celebrate 20 years of policing under a democratic government also welcomed new cluster commander Major-General Jimmy Ledwaba.

Police spokeswoman Captain Colette Weilbach said: “The day will be used to reflect on the police’s important role in society as custodians of law and order and the commitment to deliver a professional frontline service to the community.”

Activities included aerobic marathons, fun walks, soccer games, yoga, and karate demonstrations.

There were also stalls providing food, drinks and advice of a healthy nature.

At the opening ceremony, Ledwaba said: “I urge my station commanders… in the cluster not to stay in their offices. Crime is not happening in the office. Go out and monitor the management in the field.”
