Making a birthday magical

Centurion residents organise birthday party for a special girl.

Vanessa Esterhuyse from Centurion received a magical 30th birthday party on Saturday. She has down-syndrome and had no idea that her mother was about to throw her a great party with the help of some very special volunteers.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for their kindness, love and support in making our down-syndrome daughter’s 30th Birthday a great success. We were so pleased to give her this opportunity. Vanessa was treated like a princess and without the people of Centurion this would not have been possible on the scale it turned out. As parents we were overwhelmed with the kind dedication and generosity of all the donors,” said Debra Esterhuyse, Vanessa’s mother.

Debra had posted on the Facebook group People Who Live in Centurion for advice on how to throw a special party for her daughter’s 30th birthday on a tight budget. Within minutes, people from across Centurion started volunteering their time, goods and services to help make Vanessa’s birthday magical. A beautiful dress, invitations, a cake and photographs were all sponsored by people who expected nothing in return.

The theme, suggested by some of the volunteers and Debra was ‘all you need is love’. This meant the party was a red and pink spectacle, with red hearts and balloons adorning every wall of the Esterhuyses’ home, where the party was held. Vanessa could not stop smiling, in awe of her special party.

“There are so many people to thank, but a special thank must go to Wesley Landman-Peyper and Andrew Hilton Landman-Peyper for Vanessa’s gorgeous dress, as well as Marco Strydom from Mi-co photography for capturing images of the entire party and treating it like a wedding. I’m sorry I can’t name all of the people who contributed, but thank you to everyone who was involved in any way,” said Debra.
