Festive joy for orphans

Young ones at two orphanages received some festive joy on Tuesday when Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa accompanied by celebrities handed out gifts and toys to ensure some festive cheer.

Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa continued to spread festive cheer among the less fortunate of the city when he visited two orphanages on Tuesday, handing out gifts, toys and necessities.

The orphans at Tshwaraganang Masakhane Orphanage in Hammanskraal and those at the Soshanguve Block AA Orphanage received a joyous surprise when Ramokgopa, accompanied by social development MMC Eulanda Mabusela, SABC celebrities from the popular  TV series “Skeem Saam”  as  well as award winning musicians Uhuru paid them a visit.

Tuesday’s visits were part of Ramokgopa’s social responsibility programme this festive season which started with visits to numerous clinics and hospitals since the beginning of the festive season. It is a joint programme between Tshwane, Rock of Faith Outreach Social Development NPOC ( ROFSOD) and Tshwane ambassadors and personalities in the music industry.

“The festive season is a time of joy and for sharing with our loved ones and not forgetting the underprivileged. During these times we have come to take it for granted that our loved ones will share gifts with us and we in return share the same with them, but the reality is that there are many who needs a simple embrace such as orphans and the underprivileged,” said Ramokgopa as he spoke to the dedicated caregivers who look after the orphans.

“All over South Africa there are young children and the elderly who, through no fault of their own, do not know the joy of the festive season and do not share in this joy of giving. This season, as a gesture of our care and love to our people, we extend gifts and wishes for a better life to all as we bid 2014 farewell,” he added.

Ramokgopa will conclude his festive social responsibility and charity outreach programme on Thursday 1 January 2015 by visiting the Kalafong, Steve Biko and George Mukhari Hospitals to welcome the city’s new-born babies as a  gesture of goodwill and public parenthood to all Tshwane’s citizens.

“As we continue to celebrate and rest  this festive holiday, in advance I welcome the new citizens of our city and our 2015 early borns, wishing  that they will be  bringing more happiness and prosperity during this joyous season. We reiterate that we should drive, we should not drink and drive and we should obey the rules of the road so that we can see the dawn of a prosperous 2015, the year our country will turn 21 years of age ” said Ramokgopa.
