Quiz for a cause

Quiz night raises money for family.

The Bosvelder Pub and Windhoek beer hosted a quiz night on Tuesday evening in aid of a little Pretoria East boy whose parents are struggling to pay his medical bills after he nearly drowned.

Daniel ‘Poekie’ Hugo is a two-year-old boy from Pretoria East who nearly drowned earlier this year. Emergency services rescued him, and airlifted him to hospital. During his flight, the paramedics placed hot water bottles on him as his body temperature had dropped to a dangerous 28°C.

His skin was burned in the process, and he had to have several skin grafts. Though the medical aid paid for this, Daniel now needs a nurse to look after him full-time, but his parents are struggling to pay the costs.

The quiz night on Tuesday evening was attended by various friends of Daniel’s father Dan. The night was hosted by ex-Springbok rugby player Toks van der Linde, who tested the group’s knowledge on various sports and South African trivia.

The night ended on a bright note for Dan, as he walked away as the eventual winner of the quiz, beating other contestants with his vast general knowledge.

The Hugo family needs assistance in any way possible, and anyone who can offer help can call Dan at 082-888-1841.
