Flying high

Pretoria Radio Flyers RC club turned 50.

The Pretoria Radio Flyers had its 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, with enthusiasts flying model planes and helicopters in a display of aerial prowess and agility. The event took place at the Pretoria Radio Flyers club close to the Rietvlei Nature Reserve.

Helicopters and aeroplanes swept and glided through the air to the delight of spectators and other flyers.

“We are here today to celebrate 50 years of Pretoria Radio Flyers, one of the oldest clubs in the country. Over the years the club has grown, and now we have this beautiful facility close to the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. Anybody is welcome here,” said Tony Stockwell of Pretoria Radio Flyers.

During the day, young and old took turns showing off their skills, flying around in purpose-built helicopters and aeroplanes. The helicopters hovered upside down and did backward loops, and the aeroplanes swept down from high up, whooshing past curious onlookers.

The Pretoria Radio Flyers has almost 200 members who fly at various events, and keeps adding more. For more information about the club, and how to join visit www.prf.co.za
