People of the world showcase their cultures

The diplomatic fair attracted thousands.

The bright and colourful annual diplomatic fair attracted hundreds of people at the Union Buildings in Arcadia on Saturday.

The department of international relations and cooperation (DIRCO), through branch public diplomacy hosted an event that served as a key platform to celebrate South Africa’s 20 years of freedom and democracy.

It also served as an opportune platform to inform the general public about diplomacy, South Africa’s commitment to the African agenda and our role as a global citizen.

The event brought together embassies accredited to South Africa to share, showcase, celebrate and promote cultural diplomacy through creative expressions such as arts, music, languages and global cuisine.

Various groups showcased traditional music from various countries with an emphasis on African nations in light of the theme. The embassies hosted stalls where cultural cuisine were displayed for people to enjoy and purchase.
