Menlo Park Amateur Wrestling Club wins tournament

Menlo Park Amateur Wrestling Club wins the Greeco Roman wrestling tournament.

The Menlo Park Amateur Wrestling Club won a Greeco Roman Wrestling tournament by 14 to 25 against the Barbarian Wrestling club.

The wrestling tournament was held at Menlopark wrestling hall on Friday night.

The clubs competed against each other in different weight divisions.

One of the event organisers, Marelene Meyer, said the purpose of the tournament was to promote the Greeco Roman wrestling style and to have fun and also show the wrestlers that they were appreciated.

“The Barbarian wrestling team consisted of professional wrestlers from Centurion, Soshanguve, Moot and Tukkies. This was an opportunity for the amateur wrestlers to gain experience,” said Meyer.

“We are planning to host the tournament annually,” she said.

The Gala wrestling tournament was made possible by Frank Joubert.

The well known state prosecutor, advocate Gerrie Nel, was among the guests who attended the tournament.
