Teachers and pupils of FF Riebero Primary School celebrate Heritage Day by wearing bright colourful clothes.

Pupils, teachers and parents of FF Riebero Primary School in Mamelodi West celebrated Heritage Day by wearing different colourful traditional clothing.

The annual celebration was held at the school premises on September 23.

Teacher Modiegi Steytler said: “Celebrating Heritage Day together is an opportunity for pupils and teachers to express their culture by wearing their traditional clothing and to get to know each other.”

“The purpose of the day is to remind everyone where he or she comes from,” said Steytler.

“Our school teaches Sesotho as the first language but most of our pupils come from different cultures. Celebrating Heritage Day gives pupils a chance to know more of the culture of fellow class mates and also to learn their language,” said Steytler.

“The parents and teachers cooked a variety of cultural foods and everyone had the opportunity to taste food from other cultures,” she concluded.

Grade 3 pupil, Hope Tshoma who recited an indigenous poem, said she was happy to celebrate Heritage Day and have learned a lot about other cultures.

Pupils entertained teachers and parents with drama and music.
