Two shot in magistrate’s court

Two people were shot and wounded in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning.

Two people were shot and wounded in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning, an eyewitness said.

According to the witness, who asked not to be named, one police officer was shot while another officer was injured.

Shots were fired by two men in the court gallery during an escape before they hijacked a white VW Polo just outside the court.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said: “A man sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He is currently in a critical but stable condition. We attended the scene and transported him to hospital for further medical care.”

He declined to give more detail, saying this was a police matter.

Comment from the police could not be immediately obtained.

“Two court orderlies shot by suspects about to appear in Pretoria Mag Court, paramedics on scene, getaway car found Atteridgeville,” police said in a tweet on Twitter.
