Former pupils reunited

Transoranje School for Deaf in Pretoria-west celebrated its 60th birthday on Saturday.

More than 400 former pupils of Transoranje School for Deaf reunited to celebrate the school’s 60th birthday in Pretoria West on Saturday.

They enjoyed meeting old friends and toured the school viewing the new developments before having lunch together.

The school was established on 16 August 1964.

It currently has 204 pupils, most of them profoundly deaf and some have other disabilities including being intellectually challenged.

Business development manager of the school, Alta Koekemoer said the event was not aim at raising money but it focus at celebrating the school’s birthday and providing opportunity for former pupils to reunite and have fun.

“People who wanted to have lunch paid reasonable amount. There is no fundraising at this event,” Koekemoer said.

Former pupils were surprised to see the new developments at the school, especially in the field of reading and writing skills for the deaf children.
