Organisation ensures children are safe

A third Safehouse is in the pipeline.

In an effort to make a difference in the lives of children in the country, the Help-Net Fund hosted a money raising event on Saturday at Misty Meadows.

With the theme, Durban July, the non-profit organisation aimed to make a difference in the lives of abused children and to help them in any way possible. Speaking to Manessa Strydom, this is an annual event to raise money. Last year they managed to raise about R120 000.

She said the first Safehouse place of safety was opened in Pretoria in 2003 and the organisation has since expanded across the country.

“The Help-Net Fund was registered as a non-profit organisation in September 2000. We are a registered public benefit organisation and we are also registered in terms of the National Lottery Act which enables us to run our own raffle competitions,” she said.

Currently there are two place of safety in Pretoria and the Help-Net Fund is in the process of opening a third one soon.

“We will continue reaching out to more people to address the challenge of abuse against children,” she said.
