Money raised to aid young musicians

The proceeds will be used to aid young people to acquire instruments and will help to appoint private teachers for extra classes.

The Deutsche Schule Pretoria (DSP) organised a money-raising event at the Sheraton Hotel on Saturday evening.

The purpose of the event was to assist the school’s orchestra development programme and the Unisa Music Foundation’s community music education project.

The evening began with performances by the orchestras of the DSP and included various forms of entertainment, as well as art and culture performances. The audience also got the opportunity to dance the night away to the wonderful music.

Arisa Voges from the Unisa Music Foundation said the event would aid in developing musicians and teach young aspiring musicians the power of music and the skills they need to take them to a higher level. “We have a music school in Soshanguve and we are trying as much as possible to educate as many young people as we can,” said Voges.

One of the parents who is also a member of the organising committee, Marlise Filter, said the proceeds would be used to aid young people to acquire instruments and also help to appoint private teachers for extra classes.

She said it was the second money-raising event and indicated it would be an annual tradition.

Filter also said the proceeds would go towards the purchase of much-needed musical instruments for the young musicians’ development project of the DSP. This will allow underprivileged children from the partnering schools in Mamelodi the opportunity to be taught to play the instruments.
