Tshwane Metro police arrested for armed robbery

Two Tshwane Metro police officers have been arrested for armed robbery, police said on Sunday.

Two Tshwane Metro police officers were arrested on Friday for armed robbery after they allegedly robbed a Durban businessman of R550 000.

“The suspects were arrested at the Tshwane Metro Police headquarters in Gezina after a complainant came forward. The suspects will appear at the Pretoria North Magistrate Court on Monday. They are currently in police custody,” said police spokesperson Captain Disebo Selepe.

This is after the businessman was stopped by the metro police for speeding on the N1 near Hammanskraal on Tuesday morning. The metro police then took R550 000 from his car. “They searched his vehicle, noticed the large amount of money and threatened to arrest the victim for money-laundering. We have not found the money yet as we are still investigating,” said Selepe.

According to media reports, the metro police threatened the victim after taking the money. “The other officer took out a gun and told me – ‘Now shut the f*** up and do what we asked you, otherwise we will shoot you and throw you into the bush’.  Under those circumstances, I had no option. I had to get into my car and drive off. However, I managed to take down the licence plate of the vehicle,” the victim had said.
