Massive turn-out at north crackling festival

The boerewors competition saw the local Sinoviille Butchery take the top spot with the longest boerewors.

Massive crowds showed up at the eighth annual cracking festival at the NG Church in Wonderboom at the weekend.

Organiser Etienne van Rensburg said the number of people in attendance had increased from around 9 000 in 2018.

“We’ve got about 12 000 people this year. Next year, is going to be even bigger,” Van Rensburg said.

He said the main aim of the annual event was to raise funds for a good cause.

“We give all the money to charity.”

The boerewors competition saw a Sinoville butcher take the top spot with the longest boerewors.

“It was 59m long,” he said.

Van Rensburg said former titleholder –Meat World – came second.

“Meat World’s wors was 23,65m.”

The bull-ride competition saw local ward councillor Lenise Breytenbach knock former titleholder Anshunelle Burger off the saddle.

Breytenbach managed to stay on the bull for a whopping 4,8 minutes.

She told Rekord she rode the bull after being challenged by several community members.

Breytenbach – who received a full as well as half a sheep, donated the full one to charity to support the aim of the event.
