The Sun City Resort in North West are celebrating their 40th birthday this year.

The Sun City resort in North West is going all out this year, to celebrate its 40th birthday.

As part of the celebrations, members of the public have been invited to join the party.

The Throwback Retro party kicked off this past Saturday at Encore at the resort.

The aim of the evening was to dress to the theme, “taking it back to the time of the free spirit”, which was why most patrons showed up dressed in neon colours.

Party-goers were entertained by DJ Jazzy Dee, DJ Goldear, Clinton and DJ Q, who played music from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

With enthusiasm, people danced the night away.

Sun City was the vision of hotelier Sol Kerzner who wanted to create a place where dreams came true and imagination came to life.

Following the opening of the Sun City hotel and Gary Player country club came the addition of two more hotels – the Cascades and the Cabanas.

In December 1979, the then president of Bophuthatswana Lucas Mangope opened the resort.
