Thousands of enthusiasts converged on the Old East Precinct in Pretoria on Saturday for the Fête de la Musique music celebration.
“It is just the celebration of music, food, culture and giving upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talents,” said French embassy spokesperson Lali van Zuydam.
Scores of people were treated to music featuring French band Dark Blue Orchestra and the best local artists, thanks to Alliance Francaise Pretoria.
The diverse crowd reflected the beauty of South Africa’s rainbow nation. Together, they appreciated brilliant performances by screaming and shouting in celebration.

Fans enjoyed delicious food and drinks at restaurants in the area.
Van Zuydam said the event was influenced by the world music day commemorated annually in Paris, France since the early 80s.
The commemoration has spread to more than 700 cities all over the world, she said.
She said this year’s event in Pretoria was bigger and better than the previous ones because more people had attended.
“Moving the event from Sunnyside to the Old East Precinct attracted more people.
We are planning develop it even further in the future,” said Van Zuydam.
