GALLERY: New beginnings at Pretoria market

"We are adding to the normal market offering things like talent hours, bigger artists and musicians gracing our stage, new and exotic food and drinks traders, collaborations with universities and big players in the music and media industry, transport, shuttle and taxi deals, group discounts and international festivals among other things."

The Pretoria CBD 012 Central was filled with pleasure-seekers looking fresh starts to their 2019.

Market@TheSheds was celebrating the theme Newbeginings, said owner Mareli Wassenaar.

Wassenaar said her team at The Market@TheSheds was also at a stage of bringing fresh aspects to the market.

“We are adding to the normal market offering things like talent hours, bigger artists and musicians gracing our stage, new and exotic food and drinks traders, collaborations with universities and big players in the music and media industry, transport, shuttle and taxi deals, group discounts and international festivals among other things.”

Wassenaar said the market gave designers and antique collectors and artists space to showcase their stock and talents.

She said since its birth the market has been a crowd puller as it has tempted Pretorians and others from all the province to the CBD.

She said not many markets were in the city like Market@TheSheds.

Wassenaar said there were a lot of talented artists in Pretoria and they were more than welcome to sign up to participate in the market.

She said with the newly introduced talent hour, she was looking forward to the participation of visitors.

Kate Homer, an attendee, said her son had attended the event to hopefully perform.

“My son has been looking forward to playing the guitar at the market,” Homer said.

The Market@TheSheds at 385 Helen Joseph Street is from 10:00 to 20:00.

Customers who visited the market on Saturday said they enjoyed live music and the food offered.

The first market has been hosted in various locations in the city centre since October 2014 but was now permanently at Market@TheSheds, its original and wonderful, creative space in the city centre.

Wassenaar said people had to take note that going forward, the market would be hosted in the last week of the month “which sometimes will mean the 1st Saturday of the month”.

She encouraged Pretoria to come to enjoy the home-based city event as “there is a reason why our market has been voted the #1 thing to do in Pretoria on weekends”.
