GALLERY: Menlyn hosts Project Runway SA launch

"We’re incredibly proud to be able to bring this show to our shores."

Project Runway SA launched in Pretoria on Thursday night amid all the glitz and glamour associated with such international show.

The fashion design contest made for the reality crazy world, presented by Ndalo Pictures in association with 4th Street Wine, launched at the Hard Rock Cafe in Menlyn.

Television presenter and socialite Lerato Kganyago was host as the 12 aspiring fashion designers, vying for the top designer prize on Mzansi Magic from 10 July, were introduced.

Ndalo Media CEO Khanyi Dhlomo said South Africa had impressive design talent and this show would prove that.

“The show will be engaging, informative, enlightening and entertaining. It’s about talent, about mentorship, opportunity and pushing creativity past all boundaries…we’re incredibly proud to be able to bring this show to our shores.”

Project Runway SA said the contestants would be mentored by one of South Africa’s award-winning designers Gert-Johan Coetzee.

Coetzee has designed red-carpet outfits for local and international A-listers such as Bonang Matheba, Minnie Dlamini, Kelly Rowland and Kourtney Kardashian.

Rahim Rawjee and Noni Gasa will be among the judges.

The winner of the fashion competition will present a collection at Paris Fashion Week in 2019.
