A musical affair at Leriba

Classical music lovers and foodies were treated to a unique event at the Leriba hotel.

Classical music lovers and foodies were treated to a unique event held in the lush gardens of the Leriba hotel in Centurion this weekend.

The Capital Chamber Orchestra and the Armonia Theatre Chorus serenaded concertgoers, who were also treated to some wine and cheese.

The orchestra was conducted by Schalk van der Merwe, an accomplished conductor, and lecturer at the University of Pretoria.

Cellist Kevin Gersteling wowed the crowd with his solo playing, making his mother Julia Wessels proud.

“We came as a family to support him and watch him perform with the orchestra,” she said.

“He has done great for himself as he is establishing himself as an artist.”

Another concert is scheduled for 26 to 27 May at the hotel. It will also cater to classical music and wine lovers.

Over 100 award-winning wine farms would be on show at the concert, offering free wine tasting, the hotel said.

There will also be a chef competition overseen by Prue Leigh Chefs Academy.

Besides good food and wine as well promoting young musical talent, the concerts are also aimed at increasing awareness of the San parks honorary rangers anti-rhino poaching campaign and AgriSA drought relief fund.
