Rain no damper for Jacaranda FM and Spar Carols by Candlelights

The event managed to raise over R42 748 for Jacaranda Good Morning Angels through sales of songbooks and candles.

Not even the rain nor a last minute change of venue could dampen the spirits for hundreds of people who turned out for the Jacaranda FM and SPAR’s Carols by Candlelight at NG Kerk Moreletapark on Tuesday night.

The event managed to raise over R42 748 for Jacaranda Good Morning Angels through sales of songbooks and candles.

A total of 137 boxes of toys were collected.

The event was initially scheduled to take place at Loftus Stadium, but had to be moved to NG Kerk Moreletapark due to torrential rains.

Despite the last minute change of the venue, the event still managed to draw a large crowd.

Marketing manager Minisha Patel said the rain did not dampen the festive cheer.

Patel said: “Spar and Jacaranda FM did everything possible to allow the show to go on, people brought their families and friends. They brought their picnic baskets and a toy to donate for a child in need. A stellar cast sang all of the festive tunes you love.”

The line-up featured Charlize Berg, Elvis Blue, Jo Black, Juanita du Plessis, Karen Zoid, Refentse and Joe Niemand, as well as the Mzansi Youth Choir.

Jacaranda FM was broadcasting live from the event to celebrate the beginning of the festive season being in full force.

Entry to the event was free but attendees were encouraged to bring along a toy.

“Jacaranda FM and SPAR’s Carols by Candlelight is the highlight of Gauteng’s festive calendar,” said Patel.

The Mzansi Youth Choir anchored the show with their Carols cheer.

The SPAR kiddies entertained the little ones with play areas, games, crafts, buskers, movies and more.
