Christmas lights shine for Jacaranda Children’s Home

The purpose of the festival is to convey a message of Christmas not only to the children and residents of Jacaranda but to the public and to raise money for the Children’s Home.

The official opening of the biggest Christmas light festival in Pretoria took place at the Jacaranda Children’s Home in East Lynne on Friday night.

Every year from 1 to 31 December, the Jacaranda Children’s Home, shines their lights as part of their efforts to convey the true message of Christmas to the children and the public during December, with more lights.

Marketing and moneyraising manager, Christo Louw, said this year’s Christmas light display is the eighth in South Africa and has been held at the children’s home premises since 2010.

“The Christmas light festival grows and improves yearly with more lights, spirit and more celebrities who share the wonderful Christmas message that Jacaranda Children’s Home portrays,” said Louw.

The purpose of the festival is to convey a message of Christmas not only to the children and residents of Jacaranda Home but also to the public and to raise money for the Children’s Home.

“We expect thousands of visitors every year and the money raised are used to care for all our children, to successfully execute our planning for the year ahead and for the achievement of the objectives of each house individually at the children’s home,” he said.

“Our personnel, children and sponsors decorate the 21 houses and the rest of the premises with millions of Christmas lights,” she said.

During the festival crowds will also be entertained by street musicians, singers, bands, laser shows and various other types of entertainment during the month.

The gala evening is usually a big concert with some of South Africa’s top artists performing.

The “Light Route” stretches over 800 meters, and truly creates a fantasy world of Christmas lights.

It is family friendly with safe parking and security is provided.
