Fun at Pretoria zoo fun run/walk

Fun walks held every third Saturday of the month at the PTA Zoo.

More than 650 residents of Pretoria including members of the Friends of the Zoo took part in a fun run/walk on Saturday morning.

There was a 5km fun run/walk through the beautiful surrounds of the Pretoria zoo, the largest in the country.

The gates opened at 06:00 and the fun run/walk started at 06:30.

The event was organised by members of Friends of the Zoo.

Derik Bester chairman of the Friends of the Zoo said the participants received medals depicting the King Vulture after completing the 5km fun run/walk and enjoyed the day at the zoo.

He said it was a fun event to raise funds and the money collected will go towards zoo projects.

On 2 December the Friends of the Zoo will host a 5km night fun run/walk inside the zoo premises where participants will have an opportunity to experience the night time behaviour of nocturnal animals, including wolves, red pandas and hippos and others.

The Friends of the Zoo has organised a bring and braai for the participants where they may bring their own meat and refreshments after the walk to relax at the Flamingo restaurant.

The proceeds from the walk will be ploughed back into the zoo projects.
