Three winners in Centurion Person of the Year

Two security companies that are working hard to protect the people of Centurion day and night, Monitor Net and Copwatch, were also honoured at the awards.

Three people shared the Centurion’s 2017 Person of the Year award at Centurion Lake Hotel on Saturday night.

Speaking before announcing the winners, event coordinator Michelle Shado van Zyl said the awards were aimed at honouring hardworking people who were going beyond their call of duty to make a difference in the community.

Two ward councillors, Ina Strijdom, Peter Sutton as well as Sanmarie Lamprecht who is involved in various community projects, were announced winners.

“These are men and women who acted above and beyond the call of duty, whose success has inspired a generation, someone who has made an extraordinary contribution to our community, someone whose courage and achievement have changed our society for the better,” said Michelle.

Strijdom who is councillor of ward 66 said she felt honoured.

“I feel really humbled by the nomination and award. There are so many people who deserve this award than me.

“I want to thank each person who voted for me as well as the Centurion residents for making Centurion the best city in South Africa,” she said.

She dedicated the award to the residents of ward 66. “They are the people who motivates me on a daily basis.”

Another winner, Lamprecht said she felt very honoured.

“But it could never have happened without the support of friends, family and our wonderful community. I was there with two very important and amazing fellow members and it was an honour to be in the top 3 with them,” she said.

Sutton told Rekord he was grateful to the community for their support, and the past year had brought an improvement in service delivery to the area.

“We will never be satisfied with service delivery as we believed no matter how good it is, there is always room for improvement,” said Sutton.
