GALLERY: 100th cake for aunty Peggy of Florauna

She said she is happy to have lived this long.

A royal birthday party was held for Peggy Phillips on Saturday as she celebrated 100 years of life.

Family members and friends flew from as far as England, Australia, Botswana to celebrate with her at her home in Florauna.

Aunty Peggy as she is fondly known was described as a loving, kind and caring soul.

She said she was happy to have lived this long.

“It feels absolutely wonderful and I wish I could live up to 200 years,” she jokingly said.

Carole N­iks and Rebecca Davey flew from Australia especially for the party.

“We could not miss it for anything in the world. She is such a pleasure and a loving person,” said Rebecca.

Her last born daughter Marilyn said it was a blessing that her mother had lived this long.

She said it must be in the family genes because most of the people from her mother’s side had lived into their 90s.

The party was filled with fun moments, some family members wore masks resembling the royal family in England.

They all could not get enough of the birthday girl as they took photos with her.

Peggy was born in Granthan, England she moved to Zimbabwe when she was 30 where she worked as a bookkeeper.

At the age of 65 she moved to South Africa.

Her age did not stop her from working as she was an independent and energetic woman.

At 65 she worked as a matron at Pretoria Boys High school.

The mother of four girls has 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
