GALLERY: 012Central city walk explore Pretoria
The walkers were afforded an opportunity to learn more about the city they thought they knew.
The 012Central annual City walk saw Pretorians and tourists coming together to explore the city on Saturday.
The walk is aimed at giving the walkers a depth knowledge about Pretoria and its rich history.
They were taken through some iconic buildings around the city where architect Adriaan Louw gave them a bit of historical information about the buildings.
The walkers were afforded an opportunity to learn more about the city they thought they knew.
“Pretoria is a city with a legacy, a story that is often untold. A story hidden in the everyday buildings, the spaces we often walk by without a second glance,” said one of the organizers, Liz Nel.
Architecture student at the University of Pretoria, Lota Mollel said the walk has helped him see the city in a different perspective.
“I enjoyed it because I did not even know that some places exist, I got to learn the history of some buildings and meet new people,” he said.

Some of the walkers said they liked the walk because they get to explore the city at a slow pace compared to when they driving because they hardly notice their surroundings.
Louw gave background history on the Reserve Bank of South Africa, State theatre, Sammy Marks, the Jumma Mosque, Church Square and many other building during the walk.
The 012Central walks have been around for four years.
They are held quarterly and are themed according to that months’ theme and the September one was hyped around Tourism month.
After the walk they converged at the 012Central inner market for a brunch and stroll through various stalls where locally designed products were on sale.
The little ones had fun at the jumping castle.
