“We support this great initiative that brings Pretorians together.”

To usher in spring, families and friends took part in the Jacaranda/Discovery spring walk.

The walk at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens, east of Pretoria, on Saturday attracted hundreds of people including running clubs.

The event was organised by Jacaranda FM to celebrate spring.

Some streets, including Cussonia Avenue were closed, allowing participants to walk freely while having fun.

This much-loved event has been keeping health enthusiasts, music lovers and families on their toes for six years.

Local bands and musicians entertained crowds. Prizes, including medals, were given to those who completed the various distances ranging from 5km, which allowed children some younger than 10 years to walk.

There were also 8 and 15km walks. The 8km walk was recently added “for those who want to push their limits”, said the organisers.

Shawn Ebrahims of Eersterust, brought his three children along saying he wanted them to stay fit.

“For us, attending is a way of staying fit and healthy. We hardly do any walking where we live, so this gives us an opportunity to that and enjoy with family.”

Mamiki Msiza and her friend Ayanda Masombuka said they had been attending for the past five years.

“We support this great initiative that brings Pretorians together,” said Msiza.
