GALLERY: Central police celebrate diversity with the disabled
SAPS has fund-raiser for persons living with disabilities.
Tshwane Central cluster police celebrated casual day by having a sport and fun day on Friday.
The fun day was held in a bid to create awareness and raise money for people living with disabilities.
Activities for the day were in line with the theme: “Celebrate diversity with persons with disabilities”, to raise money for the disabled nationally, as well as to create awareness regarding disabilities within the SAPS.
The activities of the day included a 2.5km blindfolded partner fun walk, one arm tug-of-war, and silent aerobics.

Miss Deaf South Africa finalist for 2017, who is an admin clerk at the SAPS Moot police station, participated in the 2.5km blindfolded partner fun-walk.
Brooklyn spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said physical fitness was one of the priorities in the annual operation plan of Gauteng for 2017/2018.
Weilbach said police employees without physical disabilities could understand the daily challenges faced by physically-impaired people and colleagues through their participation.

SAPS cluster commander, Major-General Yvonne Botsheleng said it was important to put the person first and not the disability.
“The SAPS disability management programme offers a wide range of services to employees with disabilities such as disability mainstreaming, assistance with procurement of assistive devices to improve productivity at work and raising awareness with disability issues,” said Botsheleng.
