Record charity event in Pta for children’s homes

More than R1,3 million had been raised through the charity tea fundraising event in the last 10 years, the church said.

The Kameeldrift Gereformeerde Kerk hosted its biggest charity tea in 15 years on Saturday at the St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls in Brooklyn, organiser Susan Fourie said.

More than 800 people from the local congregation and other churches around Pretoria attended the event.

“We have 67 tables with 12 guests each,” Fourie said.

She said the annual occasion sought to raise money for two President Paul Kruger children’s homes, in Pretoria and in the Free State. The donation benefited about 120 disadvantaged children in the two children’s homes.

“We have raised more than R1,3 million in the last 10 years.”

Last year, the church collected R140 000 for the children’s homes. The money accumulated this year would also go to them.

“We don’t know the total amount collected yet, but we are sure we have raised more money this year to be given to charity next year.”

The guests were treated to tea, mouth-watering cakes and the music of popular Afrikaans singers Kevin Leo, Danie Niehaus and Mathys Roets.

Fourie thanked congregants, saying they symbolised the unity of the body of Christ by working together for a common goal.

“By giving they are actually receiving as the Bible says.”

Donors carried the costs incurred for the event to make sure all money raised went to charity, Fourie said.
