Boy needs money to hear for the first time
The foundation donated headphones to the value of R25 000 to RW to help his hearing nerves.
The Foundation for Children With Hearing Loss has made a plea to the public to help change the plight of a deaf Pretoria toddler.
Three-year-old RW Venter was born deaf and his parents could not afford the surgery needed to give him the ability to hear, said the foundation.
The foundation has since organised the first of several initiatives it has planned to raise the R400 000 required for the operation, which was also essential for him to able to speak, said spokesperson Erika Basson.
“We need the money so the operation could be done before the end of the year. At the moment, he cannot hear anything,” she said.
“We are hoping the operation could be done soon to enable us to take him through speech therapy classes, which will be a prolonged process on its own.”

“He’s still a baby and it won’t be difficult for him to actually be able to hear and talk, but we are running against time. As of now, we don’t have the desired amount for the operation and we need donors to help us.”
The toddler’s father Rudi said the family only realised RW had hearing difficulties when he was two years old..
“We only realised last year that he couldn’t hear when tests were done. We received a report that he could be helped, but we neither have medical aid nor the money needed for the operation.”
