Raising money for a good cause

The Firefly Foundation held the 7th annual Unlimited Titans Charity Ball to raise funds for Child Welfare Tshwane at Supersport Park in Centurion on Friday.

Big business dug deep into their pockets on Friday night to help raise money for less-privileged children in Tshwane.

The occasion was the seventh annual Unlimited Titans Ball at Supersport Park in Centurion.

It was held to raise money for Child Welfare Tshwane, said Carla Dros from the Firefly Foundation, organisers of the evening.

“We raised more than R140 000 last year and we anticipate raising more from the 350 guests attending this year’s ball,” she said.

Dros paid tribute to big business which she said had chipped in for this year’s ball.

Linda Nel, director of Tshwane Child Welfare, said this year’s event was significant because the number seven symbolised focus and perseverance.

“Due to the focus and perseverance of every one here today, we can truly honour the definition of ‘unlimited’ which is unrestricted and unconfined,” she said.

“The unrestricted love and unlimited care with which this event was originated years ago is still visible today’”

Nel said Child Welfare Tshwane had a proud legacy which had survived for nearly 100 years with the support and contributions of well-wishers who gave without expecting anything in return.

She said their generosity will assist Child Welfare Tshwane to keep on providing for many disadvantaged and vulnerable children throughout Tshwane.

“We feed, care for and guide 650 children every day in an endeavour to improve their quality of life.

They will always be grateful to your efforts,” said Nel.

On behalf of the Unlimited Titans Cricket team, administrator Karen Smithies said the ball was an opportunity to support the selfless work of the Firefly Foundation.

She said it was an honour to be able to play a small part in helping to change the lives of less- privileged children.
