AmaTuks sign veteran striker Collins Mbesuma

Mbesuma, became a household name when he scored a total of 35 goals in a single season for Kaizer Chiefs.

National First Division side University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) have unveiled the signing of veteran Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma earlier this week.

The 35 year old brings plenty of experience to the Pretoria club having played for various Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs.

Beside Mbesuma, AmaTuks have made 10 more signings with the aim of gaining promotion into the PSL. The club finished a disappointing 14th last season, narrowly avoiding relegation by a single point.

Mbesuma became a household name when he scored 35 goals in a single season for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/05 season before moving to overseas. Since his breakthrough season, the striker has had mixed fortunes in his career in Europe and South Africa.

He had a run at Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns with little success.

After that, he spends two seasons with Mpumalanga Black Aces where he was successful, netting 20 goals from 58 games.

Last season, he was with Israeli second-tier Maccabi FC, where he netted 10 goals in 22 league starts.

Overall, Mbesuma is a two-time ABSA Premiership Golden Boot winner and recently he scored a brace for the University Of Pretoria side during their 4-2 win in their pre-season fixture against Pretoria Callies FC.

Tuks coach Zipho Dlangalala, who was appointed in February this year, earlier said that he wanted his team to play according to their strength.

Other signings for AmaTuks are SuperSport United midfielder Athenkhosi Dlala,Katlego Mohamme, Sphamandla Mlilo, Luvolwethu Mpeta, Nqubeko Dlamini, Sphamandla Mntambo, Clive Gumede, Sphamandla Nzuza, John Tshabalala and Mosesenyane Maswanganye.
