Fundraiser for cancer warrior a success

People came together to raise money for a boy who has Gorlin Goltz syndrome.

A group of farmers successfully raised money at the weekend for a boy battling cancer.

A charity farmers’ market was held in Wolmarans Street, Bapsfontein, on Saturday to raise money for Reece Trumplemann (11) who was diagnosed with Gorlin Goltz syndrome.

Rekord wrote about Reece, from Welbekend, four months ago when his parents took him to Steve Biko hospital for what was assumed to be a broken jaw, only to find it was cancer.

Melissa Maritz, organiser of the farmers’ market, said a total of R3 700 was raised at the market on Saturday.

“We are extremely grateful and would like to thank everyone who donated money and bought a raffle ticket in aid of Reece.”

Maritz said Sean Lourens, managing director of NLA Timbers in Bapsfontein, contributed the UV clothing to the value of R3 250.

Reece is completely allergic to the UV rays from the sun and the clothing will assist him to go outside.

Lourens will meet with Reece and his mother Marsha on Wednesday to hand over the clothing.

Maritz said R450 of the R3 700 collected would go towards the next raffle of the farmers’ market on 2 July, also in support of Reece.

She said Marsha was excited about the huge success and thankful to everyone who lent a hand.
