Pretoria north man is pumpkin king

The annual Goliat van Gat Grootste Pampoen Competition was held at Pretoria Old Moto Club in Silverton and was as usual, enjoyed by all.

A pumpkin grower from Pretoria this year walked away with the coveted title as the winner of the annual Goliat van Gat Grootste Pampoen Competition.

The competition was held at the Pretoria Old Motor Club in Silverton on Saturday.

Hugo le Roux, from Pretoria North, won the first prize for growing and entering a pumpkin weighing 388kg.

“I am very proud about winning the first prize. I spent a long time looking after this meneer,” said Le Roux.

Le Roux said he planted the pumpkin in October last year in the back yard of his home.

He also beat last year’s biggest pumpkin record of 327kg.

The world’s record for the biggest pumpkin is 1 054kg while South Africa’s record is 504kgs.
