Blessed Mondays for Union Buildings

Ziggi Aussel prays for people who pass by the Union Buildings on Monday mornings.

At 05:00 every Monday morning, Ziggi Aussel puts on his traditional attire and gets ready to pray for people who pass by the Union Buildings.

He has been praying for the country, especially the head of state, for 44 years.

“I pray for people at all government offices, because it is written in the bible that we should pray for those in authority, whether we voted for them or not,” he said.

“I chose the Union Buildings for Monday mornings because I wanted to start with the head of state first.

“There is so much unemployment, crime and poverty. God does not take pleasure in all of that.”

He said all these were signs that churches did not pray hard enough.

“Praying for homeless people is the most emotional; I stand on the street and weep. It is not God’s plan that there should be the suffering and pain that we see in the streets.”

Aussel says his colourful multi-cultural outfit represents different cultures in our country because God loves everyone.

“God loves Zulus, Ndebeles and even the Khoi.”

After praying, Ziggi says he blows a horn.

“It represents a prophetic declaration and goes back to the Biblical times, whenever victory was accomplished a horn would be blown,” he said.
