Flying squad intercepts hijacked vehicle en route to border

Officers carrying out patrol duties on Sunday, October 13 found the Toyota Fortuner had been stolen in Garsfontein earlier this month.

The Waterberg and Capricorn District flying squad teams apprehended a 54-year-old for possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle along the N1 North between Kranskop and Nyl plazas on Sunday, October 13.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers were doing their patrol duties when they saw a suspicious white Toyota Fortuner.

A 54-year-old male suspect was arrested for attempting to smuggle the stolen vehicle across the border.

Ledwaba said they approached it and the driver was alone in the car.

“Upon a preliminary investigation, it was established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Garsfontein, Gauteng this month,” said Ledwaba.

He said the vehicle was purposed to be smuggled through the Beit Bridge border to Zimbabwe.

Ledwaba added that the suspect was immediately placed under arrest.

“The police investigations will continue. Limpopo commissioner of police Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe commended the members involved in the arrest following the swift recovery of the stolen vehicle.”
