Downs ladies a point away from fifth league title

Banyana Ba Style have amassed 77 points from 28 matches and scored an impressive 107 goals while conceding only 12.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are closer to retaining the Hollywoodbets Super League after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over the University of Pretoria on Saturday.

This win marks the team’s 14th consecutive victory and 25th overall for this season.

With goals from Boitumelo Rabale, Karabo Dhlamini, and Melinda Kgadiete, the Brazilian Ladies are now just a point away from clinching their fifth consecutive league title.

Bambanani Mbane captained the team on the day and delivered a stellar defensive performance, leading her team to their eighth consecutive clean sheet.

“The three points were crucial for our title push, and I am proud of the team’s effort.”

She said the game was not easy, but the team stayed focused and managed to keep a clean sheet.

“Keeping a clean sheet is always important for our confidence and defensive strength.

We knew that they would come out strong, but we remained disciplined and stuck to our game plan,” said Mbane.

Mbane added that all the other team members played their part in the game, and that’s what makes their team special.

Defender Lebohang Ramalepe also reflected on the match’s intensity.

“It was a high-intensity game, and our main focus was to get maximum points,” she said.

Ramalepe said dropping points was not an option for the team.

She said they had to make sure they stayed sharp and maintained their composure throughout the game.

“Every opportunity in front of the goal mattered, and we had to be clinical. It is that level of focus and determination that has carried us through the season.

“Now, we just need to carry this momentum into the final games and finish the job,” added Ramalepe.

Boitumelo Rabale continues to lead the scoring charts with 16 goals, followed closely by Nthabiseng Majiya with 14 goals.
