Brooklyn CPF election postponed

A new date has been set for October 22 and residents are invited to the election meeting.

Brooklyn residents in the east of Pretoria could not elect a new CPF executive on October 2 as planned.

This was due to a failure to form the sub-forum committees.

According to Captain Adriaan Bekker of Brooklyn police, the Constitution states that sub-forums must be elected before the executive.

Bekker said the new dates have been set and residents are invited to the election meeting on October 22.

He said the sub-forum elections will be hosted from Wednesday to Friday.

“I will attend all the sub-forums elections to ensure everything goes smoothly so that on October 22 we elect a new CPF to work with police against crime.”

Residents are encouraged to participate in the elections.

He said the exco election showdown will be held at Elim Full Gospel Church, Duxbury Road in Hillcrest opposite Brooklyn police station.

District police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the CPF will have six vacant positions for chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer, which must be filled.

He said all residents, concerned organisations, partners, role players and business owners in the Brooklyn policing precinct are encouraged to attend the elections.

Van Dyk said a CPF is very important as it helps to keep communities safe, and works with police in integrated crime prevention and crime combatting operations which are critical to policing.

“The CPF will bolster police work.”

He said CPFs are the police’s strongest link to communities and play an integral role in the safety partnership.

Van Dyk said people who are eligible to stand for election must comply with the following:

– The candidate must be in good standing.

– No SANDF, SAPS, reservists or correctional service officers.

– No owners or employees of private security companies.

– No non-SA citizens.

– Must hold no political positions.

– 18 years or older.

The Brooklyn policing precinct includes the following suburbs:

Sector 1 – Brooklyn, Hatfield, Hillcrest, Koedoespoort, Lynnwood North and Persequor Park.

Sector 2 – Alphen Park, Ashley Gardens, Bailey’s Muckleneuk, Hazelwood, Maroelana, Menlo Park, Nieuw Muckleneuk and Waterkloof.

Sector 3 – Constantia Park, De Beer’s, Erasmuskloof, Lynnwood Glen, Menlyn, Newlands and Waterkloof Glen.

Sector 4 – Erasmusrand, Monument Park, Sterrewag, Waterkloof Heights, Waterkloof Park, Waterkloof Ridge and Waterkloof Ridge X2.
