Taxi association donate school shoes

“The learners will never again feel like outsiders, they will come to school looking like other learners and it will boost their confidence too,” said the deputy principal of Mahube Valley Primary School, Morena Raesibe.

On Friday, learners of Mahube Valley Primary School in Mamelodi East received brand-new shoes donated by the Mamelodi Amalgamated Taxi Association (Mata).

The association donated 36 pairs to learners who come from disadvantaged families.

Freddie Mashapa, the public relations officer of Mata, said the donation is part of giving back to the community.

He said this is not their first project of ploughing back into the community or donating to the local schools.

“We have been to more than five schools this year, and teachers are the ones identifying the children who desperately need school shoes or uniforms,” said Mashapa.

He said the aim of donating school shoes or uniforms is to encourage learners to look forward to coming to school.

“We also want to help unemployed parents who can’t afford to buy their children school uniforms,” he added.

Deputy principal of Mahube Valley Primary School, Morena Raesibe thanked the taxi association on behalf of the school and learners.

She said the donation came at the right time.

“Most of our learners come from disadvantaged families. Putting on new school shoes will give the learners a reason to wake up early in the morning looking forward to coming to school,” said Raesibe.

“The learners will never again feel like outsiders, they will come to school looking like other learners and it will boost their confidence too.”

Mata also encouraged learners to take education very seriously because it is the key to success and it will open doors for them to become anything they want in life.
