CBD artist paints portrait of inspiration

Shaddytheartist decided to paint a portrait of Bongani DA Style Guru because he was inspired by his journey in life.

A Pretoria CBD-based painter made a beautiful portrait of a fellow artist who inspired his love for art after the depressional Covid-19 pandemic.

The painting was made as a sign of brotherly love and support for the artist.

Shadrack Ntiwane (32), best known as Shaddytheartist, painted a portrait of Bongani Goodman Mavimbela (35), known in the entertainment and fashion circles as “Da Style Guru”.

The artists are from Mpumalanga in Nelspruit and Kwa-Ndebele but reside in the Pretoria CBD.

Speaking to Shaddytheartist, he said he decided to paint a portrait of Bongani Da style guru because he was inspired by his journey in life.

He said the “Da Style Guru” lost his clothing business and his customers during Covid-19.

“Da Style Guru was also a stylist to the famous DJ Zinhle but lost everything because of lockdown and even admitted to depression,” said Shaddytheartist.

However, everything changed in 2022 when he found a job at the health department and rose again to fame.

Today, the Da Style Guru is a dynamic and passionate business entrepreneur with a multifaceted career spanning MCing, fashion styling, interior design, and events management.

Despite facing challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the temporary closure of his clothing store in Pretoria, he rebranded himself, earning recognition for his vibrant personality and distinctive fashion sense.

Speaking to Da Style Guru, he said he was also inspired when Shaddytheartist first told him “he wanted to paint a portrait of me because of the story of my life”.

“I was inspired because it shows that he supports and follows local artists,” he said.

“We share the same experience of depression but never gave up on life.

“This should be the message to all upcoming artists or young entrepreneurs not to give up in life. Even when they fall, they should pick themselves up and start from scratch, surrounding themselves with people with the right mind,” said Da Style Guru.

“Shaddytheartist also started from the bottom, cutting people’s hair at a tavern in Mpumalanga. Because of his amazing artistic skills, people also started following him.

He ended up buying two shacks and joined them to create his barbershop and art gallery.

Shaddytheartist saved up until he bought a house, now the house serves as both the studio and the hair salon and he uses a car to deliver his paintings.”

“We no longer compete but we collaborate,” he said.
