Police hunt for hijackers who raped woman after kidnapping her and her husband

The suspects kidnapped the man and his wife and later abandoned the vehicle in Saulsville.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is asking residents for information related to a hijacking, kidnapping and rape in Proclamation Hill, Pretoria West on Friday.

The TMPD said the incident occurred around 22:45.

It said its tactical unit members responded to information over a hijacked Nissan hardbody vehicle left abandoned in Saulsville, Pretoria West.

TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said the vehicle was hijacked with the driver and his wife. The suspects then drove with the victims and raped the woman. When police recovered the abandoned vehicle, no suspect was found.

“A case of hijacking, kidnapping and rape was opened with the South African Police Services (SAPS). Although the vehicle was recovered, the TMPD is working together with SAPS to apprehend the perpetrators who committed this crime,” said Mahamba.

The TMPD asks residents who might have any information regarding this incident to contact the nearest police station and the TMPD on 012 358 7095/6.

“The Chief of TMPD, Commissioner Yolanda Faro, condemns this vicious act by criminals and vows that the TMPD will not rest until these suspects are found and arrested,” said Mahamba.
